about

My pastor father has a bumper sticker that reads: "Give A Damn." His personal mantra for life. This is my tribute to him. To give the song some tension with the title, I chose to go with a 6/8 gospel feel.

Clark Bondy's killer sax solo at the beginning of the song, pretty much sets the tone.

lyrics

A man of passion
A man of pain
A preacher a father
A companion

A gentle heart
With a raging fire
Foolish servant
In oversized shoes

He walked the desert
Heartache in his past
Embracing the Creator
To tame his savageness

He is a man…
That gives a damn

Profound simplicity
His calling card
Creative chaos
In his wake

A man of vision
A man of prose
A humble heart
That rarely froze

Yes he stumbled
Said some unkind words
Raised his voice in anger
As he declared his humanness

He is a man…
That gives a damn
